Actinic keratosis (AK), commonly known as solar keratosis, is a prevalent skin condition characterized by rough, scaly patches on the skin resulting from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, primarily from the sun. Although actinic keratosis is classified as a precancerous condition, neglecting it can lead to the development of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), a type of skin cancer. The primary cause of actinic keratosis is the cumulative damage inflicted on skin cells by UV radiation.
