While many heroes of Uttar Pradesh had put their lives at stake to free the country from British rule, countless freedom fighters also suffered the painful tortures of jail. One such village in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh is Harakh, where more than 24 freedom fighters raised the slogan of revolt against the British rule, became rebels and also remained behind prison bars. Like Harakh, there are many such villages in Uttar Pradesh where people had awakened the passion for freedom and spent their lives in jail, but only a few of their names were inscribed in golden letters in history. Thousands of such freedom fighters who had dedicated their youth to jails for the sake of freedom remained anonymous.
