The word “polymer” derives from the Greek words “poly” (many) and “mers” (units). The combination of “monomers” produces a copolymer. Polymer materials are characterized by long chains of molecule units known as “mers”. These chains determine plastic properties and binding strength. These random chain structures give the plastic an Amorphous look to it. Amorphous plastics cannot mix with water however the use of additional polymer additives permit Solid Roads products to use water as a delivery system to lubricate sand particles. Under mechanical compaction, the chains inter-lock providing strength and toughness.
