Banks Cannot Refuse Coins or Damaged Notes: RBI
The Reserve Bank of India issued a Master Direction consolidating and updating guidelines on the exchange of notes and coins, mandating all bank branches to provide free and non-discriminatory exchange services to the public. Banks must accept soiled, mutilated, and imperfect notes, as well as coins of valid denominations, and ensure adequate availability of cash through ATMs.
